2002---SAGE/Milwaukee, as an official provider of services to The Milwaukee County Department on Aging, received $10,00 during the year of 2002 to provide services to older LGBT people in the county. These funds partially paid for our outreach advertising program, partially paid the salary of our part-time social worker, paid rent and phone services, and partially paid for our half-day training program for professionals who work with the elderly on the special needs of LGBT Seniors. This year's training session was conducted on December 6 by Amy Davenport of Rainbow Train, Seattle, WA. Forty-two professionals attended. The G/L Community Center Trust Fund [not to be confused with the LGBT Community Center] provided a grant of $200 for rent; The Cream City Foundation provided a grant of $2,500 and Attorney Ruth Irvings provided pro bono legal services for work on the revision of our corporate bylaws. Late in the year we received a $58,000 bequest from the estate of Howard G. Beck. The Board placed $20,000 in a reserve account money fund, $3,000 was held for general purpose use for the year 2003, $30,000 was placed in an endowment fund managed by The Greater Milwaukee Foundation late in 2002 and $5,000 was added in early 2003. The exact title of the Fund is Greater Milwaukee Foundation SAGE Milwaukee Endowment Fund for LGBT Seniors. Donations to this fund can be made directly with the Greater Milwaukee Foundation specifically naming the SAGE Endowment or through SAGE/Milwaukee and are tax deductible as charitable contributions. Our Newsletter was expanded to four pages in February and offered by email attachment for the first time. A new website: www.sagemilwaukee.org was put on the internet and a new email address: email@sagemilwaukee.org was started in December. During the year the Board established several working committees, revised the corporate bylaws, completed a Policies and Procedures manual, finished a Strategic Plan, and applied for funding to hire a consultant to work on funding and development and write several grant proposals. We hired Lauritzen and Associates who submitted a grant proposal for us to a foundation in early 2003 for salary for an Executive Director. Non-Profit Management Fund provided a grant of $5,000 toward the consulant fee, these funds arriving in early 2003. Our Social Worker continued to work with individuals with personal and other problems and she established Telephone Companion and Friendly Visitors Programs, overseeing SAGE volunteers. A SAGE Dinner Club was established in November, with the first regular dinner held at the Pasta Tree Restaurant. SAGE/Milwaukee Board Member Eldon E. Murray and SAGE member Gina Graham attended regular meetings of the Advisory Committee to the Commissioners of The Milwaukee County Department on Aging. Graham is the Assistant Chair of the
