SAGE/Milwaukee Events
Mondays and Thursdays in July (skip the 5th)--
SAGE/Milwaukee "Drop-In"
Come as you are, any time
between 1:00 and 5:00 to see what your friends are up to. What you
do is up to you. Sit and chat, or grab a deck of cards. Maybe you'd
rather play a board game. Hungry? Thirsty? We've got you covered
there--just slip a buck or two in "THE JAR."
Independence Day--4th of July--Our usual gathering to
celebrate our nation's 234th Birthday! (See Newsletter's back page
for more details.) If the weather is dubious, call the office after 8:00
AM Sunday to hear a recorded message on the "go-no go" status.
(Rain date, July 5.)
AA Meeting--July 7--This is new!!! At this meeting we will
be asking people who are recovering alcoholics how they would like
this group to be run, when it should happen, and other options so that
beginning in August we will start having a meeting every week. If you
have any thoughts about the future of a SAGE AA Meeting please joinus.
"Open Cards"--July 11 & July 25--Come to the SAGE
office and play your favorite card game against your "old pals" or
some new challengers. Up to a change? Chances are good there will
be someone interested in teaching you how to play
their favorite
game. Bill Retrum can teach 'em all. Those interested in Bridge are
especially encouraged to call ahead in an effort to assure a "foursome."
Bring a buddy and a nibbly--like the Army, SAGErs tend to
march to the "snack drum."
FAMOUS Fish Fry--July 18--It may not be famous, but it
should be! Always the third Friday of the month, and always at MONA's Out 'N
About. The
all inclusive price: a mere $14 (American). [That's about 11.50 in
Euros.] Where else can you get as much slaw, taters, baked and fried cod as
you want, along with dessert and coffee.
NOTE: Time change for the summer
('cause it stays lighter longer) 6:00 for Cocktails (2 for 1 'til 7:00) or free soft
drinks until you leave. Casual dining at 6:30. 1407 South First Street.
RCPC Pot Luck PICNIC--July 19--Not "just" a SAGE event, but a GLBT
Community Event. This collage of gay groups keeps growing, and so does attendance.
SAGE is often heavily represented. As usual, meats (and usually veggie
items) are provided, while guests are encouraged to bring appropriate dishes
for sharing---enough for SIX people, please. Noon to 4:00 "behind" the Senior
Center at Washington Park, 4420 W, Vliet.
Let's Talk About…Social Events--July 21 If you have some ideas
about new events that we could provide or have thoughts about how we could
make the events we are doing better, then this is the place to be, We'll start at
7:00 p.m. and light beverages will be served. Feel free to bring a friend and a
snack to share.
Canasta--July 27--Always a "hoot," as SAGE members, friends, a bunch
of cards, and a smattering of good natured humor come together. Noshes
range from "Retrum's Pretzel & Snack Mix" to cucumber sandwiches, to wholesome
things like fruit. Need to learn, or just a "refresher?" Great! We're a
patient bunch!
History Along the River--July 31--Dan O'Keefe, former SAGE treasurer,
reprises his skills as a "pro" while he gives an informal history of the
buildings along the river. Plans are to Meet, Walk, and Eat. Watch for the next
issue of the Newsletter for more specifics.
